Debut Album Dilation
Relase March 23, 2015 on Film Recordings
“’Dilation’ “ is a physical term for expansion and widening.
How far can you go with a piano? How much can you get out of it, soundwise?
That`s what the two fine musicians Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel want to find out with their project Grandbrothers.
They create a sound that combines classical composition with modern, experimental production and sound design.
Erol and Lukas deliberately restrict themselves to the sounds of the grand piano across the album, modern-sounding music using classical instruments.
The special Grandbrother`s sound is based on Erol`s fantastic piano playing and Lukas` inventions, how to use the piano differently:
He created a series of electromechanical hammers that could be controlled via laptop (on software that he designed himself, no less) to ‘play’ the piano. This process allowed the duo to discover new, previously unknown sounds – sounds that couldn’t be achieved through conventional playing – which give the record its unique sonic style.
With further manipulation, using loops, effects, and amplification, „Dilation“ is an album with an extraordinary range of sound, a new style in piano playing and amazing compositions.
Classical, modern, expressive and emotional, with one foot on the dancefloor: Grandbrothers.
Gandadiko, the title of Samba’s potent, diverse and ambitious new album, translates from his native language Songhai as: “Land of Drought” or “Burning Land.”
Samba Touré is known to search for the seeds of his musical ideas in the assorted stack of CDs he listens to while driving through the chaotic streets of Bamako in Mali. The out-of-the-box musical inspirations he has picked up for his new album range from Serge Gainsbourg (Wo Yende Alakar) to Bo Diddley via Tom Petty (Su Wililé ) to funky psychedelia (I Kana Korto), though of course all the raw material is instinctually filtered through the traditional melodies and rhythms of his Songhai musical heritage.
The songs on Gandadiko are in fact framed by a restless eclecticism. Samba’s guitar playing has never been so anxious, exploratory and rock and roll and his voice has never been as smooth and relaxed. Samba wants to be many places at once and the accomplishment of Gandadiko is that by successfully navigating these sorts of “contradictions,” Samba’s artistry has reached an even higher level.

Fofoulah's music is rooted in the rhythms of Sabar, a traditional form of drumming from the Gambia and Senegal belonging to the Wolof people. Using the rhythmic language of these drums, the band combines elements of electronic music, dub, improvisation, groove and other world musics. The music explores the dialogue between these sounds, drawing on each member's background and influences.‘Fofoulah’ (meaning “it's there” in Wolof) takes the listener on a unique and exciting journey where traditional rhythms meet the diversity of the UK music scene.
Performing mainly in London and Bristol clubs, Fofoulah released ‘Bene Bop EP’ in 2013 with Senegalese singer Biram Seck. Later that year the band went to Real World Studios to record their debut album ‘FOFOULAH’ which is to be released on Glitterbeat Records in September 2014. Produced by drummer Dave Smith (Robert Plant, Juju and Outhouse Ruhabi collaborator) the album features Bristol resident Senegalese singer Batch Gueye, UK vocalist Ghostpoet, Algerian/Parisian singer Iness Mezel and Gambian born Fulani musician Juldeh Camara.
Noura Mint Seymali: Tzzeni, OUT NOW on Glitterbeat Records.
Tzenni in Hassaniya means to circulate, to spin, to turn. It’s the name for a whirling dance performed to the music of Moorish griots, often under khaima tents thrown up for street gatherings in the sandy quartiers of Nouakchott and out across the wide deserts of Mauritania.
Produced and recorded across an appropriately dizzying array of locations and social contexts (New York City, Dakar, Nouakchott) chanteuse Noura Mint Seymali's album Tzenni is a contemporary articulation of Moorish griot music from Mauritania—an artform that has been evolving and gaining momentum for centuries.
Noura Mint Seymali is an artist profoundly steeped in history and tradition but also rigorously devoted to its global resonance. Songlines magazine wrote about Noura and her band that: "this Mauritanian music is an excellent example of roots rocketed into the 21st century."
At the moment, Noura's album 'Tzenni' is #2 on World Music Charts Europe!
After their Masterpiece “Lowlands” THE FLYING EYES release a special collection of songs titled „Leave It All Behind Sessions“ - a compilation of country/folk mixed songs recorded over the last 5 years. It reflects a band who, throughout their musical journey, has explored more soulful sides of songwriting buried beneath walls of distortion.
Blues Harp, sitar, acoustic guitar…. This album is a reflection of america´s music history, a trip back into the 50s, 60s and 70s.
THE FLYING EYES recorded a collection of songs inspired of Country, Blues and Folk Rock. This is not a new direction but just a different side they have explored to escape the deafening fuzz and feedback.
It´s their view of american rock history. Tiny stories and huge songs, which show you the typical THE FLYING EYES spirit, not only because of the distinctive voice.
The Flying Eyes have swiftly achieved a notable following in Europe with extensive club tours and festival appearances. Hundreds of shows and years of touring later they release „Leave It All Behind Sessions“ – just a short move into another direction, an interlude, but first class and full of passion.
The upcoming To Rococo Rot album „Instrument“ is their fourth album released on City Slang. The band is famous for their distinctive, colorfully woven sound that floats freely between the musical spheres and incorporates hints of Dub, Electronica, Ambient, Field Recordings, Library Music & Noise. On the new album though, they take a huge leap into unknown territory, the realms of Singing and Songwriting. Yet, one does not simply walk into new areas without a guide, int this case, they picked Arto Lindsay to accompany the journey and even sing (a first! for to rococo rot) on three of these tracks.
Though melodies have always been a big part of their sound, the inclusion of a human voice is a distinctive modification. It sits perfectly within the warm timbres created by To Rococo Rot.
The pulsing opener ‘Many Descriptions’ is a bold opening statement; with Lindsay’s breezy vocals the focal point. “Instrument“ is still unmistakably To Rococo Rot; with recognisable complex landscapes of sound and structure that they have practised and made their own.
La Chunga is glad to be the Sub-Publisher in Europe for the new album:
„White Teeth, Black Thoughts“ is the souped-up, swinging sound of America’s dance band playing as the ship goes down.
Masters of both extraordinary elegance and bird-flipping fury, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies are indeed the real deal. Ever impossible to pigeonhole, „White Teeth, Black Thoughts“ sees the Eugene, Oregon-based big band pushing themselves to the outer limits of inspiration and invention. The album marks CPD’s first jazz and swing-powered outing in more than a decade, built upon a twisted frame of guitar-slinging rock ‘n’ roll.
The new album presents a collection of sassy, horn-accented tunes, that are more reminiscent of the 1990s than of the 1940s. Unlike their contemporaries, the Daddies routinely put a modern spin on their lyrics, rather than romanticizing the past.
Accompanying the release, two videos (The Babooch and I Love American Music) critically and ironically comment on the status quo of contemporary American life. The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies just released their new album on People Like You Records.
EMA continues to evoke a unique and ambitious sound that saw her rightfully recognised as one of the most singular artists to emerge in 2011, and is likely to send her back into the public consciousness once again in 2014.
Having teased us with a new track ‘Satellites’ last month, released to rave reviews and scored Pitchfork’s Best New Music who said “The most bracing thing yet from an artist already more bracing than most”, EMA returns with her highly anticipated second album The Future’s Void, released on 7 April via City Slang.
“This record is the sound of resistance to digital commodification” Erika M. Anderson explains. "I naturally gravitate towards hooks and melodies and in some ways, the structure of these songs is the poppiest yet. The harshness and production strikes a balance with that so they don’t sound like they could be on adverts.” The Future’s Void is a record that seeks to deal with the fact that certain ideas that once seemed futuristic are now the norm, while also trying to sidestep a lot of the musical tropes that come along with exploring technology. It straddles the ugly and animalistic, the pretty and civilised, the digital and the analog and the past and the present, resulting in a timeless and yet timely piece of work. And like any great punk record, it questions social convention and rebels against the status quo.
Hugo Race (Bad Seeds & The Fatalists) and Chris Eckman (The Walkabouts) are the core of Dirtmusic and their collaborations make the music what it is. They have hooked up here with the likes of Tamikrest, Ben Zabo, Super 11 and a stack of others. This was recorded in Bamako Mali in the same sessions that produced their last album ‘Troubles’ , but these show another side of the music they laid down then – it is more upbeat and has a sense of wonderment in the music that wasn’t possible before.
While the Ben Zabo band is still the core collaborator, the textures and tempos are slower and more opaque. Organics and electronics intertwine and unfold unpredictably. The outward frustration and fear documented on the previous album has given way to something more insular and pensive. The echoing space between the notes is emphasized and subsequently so are the voices and the texts.
Aziza’s new album Soutak (“Your Voice”), released on Glitterbeat and published by La Chunga, is her third album, a stark, acoustic document where she is joined by a small group of musicians from both the Barcelona and Malian music scenes. Soutak is a vivid bridge between Saharawi culture and Aziza’s passion for Malian music, and it is without question her most empowered and fluent musical journey to date.
The album was produced by Chris Eckman (Tamikrest, Ben Zabo, Dirtmusic) and recorded live and direct in Barcelona in June of 2013.
Voiced with deep passion and grace, Aziza Brahim's music adeptly travels the expanse between her Western Saharan roots and Barcelona, the European cosmopolis where she now lives. Aziza is a contemporary sonic poet and a prominent spokesperson for the Saharawi people and their ongoing struggle for recognition and justice.
The new CD : Release date: October 5, 2013 on Glitterhouse
“We Were Wrong, Right” is the third album by the acclaimed Swedish six-piece from Malmö. The sonic noise of indie rock, the delicate and intimate feel of lo-fi and the more danceable parts of folk music –-combined with songs, melodies and drive that make you either sigh or cry. Or fight. Or dance. Golden Kanine started off as a loud guitar based Indie-Rock band . Since then, the band liked to experiment with more diverse instruments and a more intimate approach. Now the sound includes mandolins, horns and soaring feedback. Their music progressed quite a bit. They are a loud intimate band. Or a intimate loud band. It’s the bands wish that people will be able to cry as well as dance to the songs. Mission accomplished. Golden Kanine toured - a lot. They played small hole-in-the-walls as well as festivals (Haldern-Pop, Orange Blossom Special, Weinturm, Fusion, even Southside and Hurricane), they got to know the feeling of playing sold-out arenas by supporting Mando Diao during their German tour and they were invited to play and perform on the legendary German TV-show WDR-Rockpalast..
Tamikrest means “crossing” in the language of the Kel Tamashek, the traditionally nomadic Saharan people that are commonly referred to as the Tuaregs. It is an apt name for a band that so successfully merges the values of their timeless culture with the sounds and visions they have encountered on a headlong journey to the concert stages and ipods of the world.
Since the band emerged onto the international scene four years ago with their debut album “Adagh”, they have been in constant motion, moving between the Sahara and Europe as though these places were next-door neighbors. All the while, during this same time period, their homeland has suffered increasingly profound and catastrophic events. Originally hailing from Kidal, in the northeast of Mali, as the result of ongoing war, persecution and political collapse most of the band now lives in exile in Algeria. Their new album “Chatma”, their third, deftly navigates these experiences and fashions them into a fully persuasive and poetic musical document. The album is filled with sober reflection, moral indignation, musical experimentation, cultural celebration and the kick of rock and roll.
“Chatma” is also Tamikrest’s first album to be wholly written around a defined theme. In Tamashek “Chatma” means “Sisters” and the band has dedicated the album in their own words to: “the courage of the Tuareg women, who have ensured both their children's survival and the morals of their fathers and brothers.
One thing THE FLYING EYES have definitely done is breathe new life into psychedelic blues rock over the course of their previous two albums, 2010’s self-titled set (made up of their first two EPS, Bad Blood and Winter) and 2011’s Done So Wrong. 2013’s LOWLANDS takes things even further, refining their fierce sound beyond previously acknowledged influences, amongst them The Doors, Black Sabbath, Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, even Danzig and a touch of Neil Young’s Americana. Though it still owes a proud, nostalgic debt to the sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Lowlands is quite simply timeless, nine thunderous slabs of howling, primitive but far from brutish rock that are as powerful as anything heard this year. LOWLANDS is packed full of eloquent harmonies, bludgeoning riffs, stoned melodies and an almighty rhythm section.
Troubles is the new album from Dirtmusic – Chris Eckman (The Walkabouts) and Hugo Race (Fatalists/True Spirit/Bad Seeds) – recorded in Bamako, Mali, in September 2012 during the high-tension and tragic recent crisis – hence the name,‘Troubles’.Race and Eckman decided to head further upriver’, composing and recording an album from scratch in full collaboration with a select crew of Malian artists. Drawing on musicians from the Ben Zabo and Samba Toure bands as a core rhythm section, Race and Eckman produced the sessions on the dance floor of Salif Keita’s Moffou Club, inviting in guest vocalists including not only Ben Zabo and Samba Touré, but also Virginie Dembele (from the Rokia Traore ensemble), rising star Aminata Wassidje Traore and soku-master Zoumana Tereta.Inspired by the collision between West African rhythms, digital sorcery androck’n’roll, Troubles is a singular and border-slicing musical journey. Release date: June 7th, 2013 on Glitterbeat

new album 'Albala' out 6 May 2013 on Glitterbeat Records
When you meet Samba Touré in person, he comes off as a soft-spoken man, a man who easily charms you with his abundant smile and optimistic gait. But on his third album, 'Albala', which in the Songhai language means "danger" or "risk", a weighted and at times defiant side of his personality emerges. To call 'Albala' his darkest album is an understatement, but it is not a self-absorbed darkness. The cause of Samba's worry is the crashing world around him, and more specifically the troubles echoing out from his beloved northern Mali homeland.
As a band member and valued collaborator of the late Malian legend Ali Farka Touré, Samba established a significant reputation, and through his first two solo albums, 'Songhaï Blues' and 'Crocodile Blues' (World Music Network), his confidence and musical prowess grew proportionately. But 'Albala' is a new flash point. There is more power, there is more grit, the mood is deeper, and aptly, given the album's title, Samba takes more musical risks.
Recorded at Studio Mali in Bamako in the autumn of 2012, Samba is joined by his regular band members Djimé Sissoko (ngoni) and Madou Sanogo (congas, djembe) and guests such as Zoumana Tereta, the legendary master of the soku (a one-stringed violin) and the fast-rising Malian neo-traditional singer Aminata Wassidje Traore. Additionally, Hugo Race (The Bad Seeds, Dirtmusic, Fatalists) contributes an array of subtle atmospherics on guitar and keyboards, with Chris Eckman (The Walkabouts, Dirtmusic etc.) and Philippe Sammiguel in the producers' seats.
Frenchman Chris Joss, published by Cristal (Sub-published by La Chunga), is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and autonomous studio producer. The debut release "Mark Ernestus Meets Ben Zabo " by Glitterbeat Records is a limited edition 12” with two dubbed-up remixes by electronic music explorer, Mark Ernestus. Release: March 23, 2013. The tracks are pulled from Glitterbeat artist, Ben Zabo’s self-titled and highly touted, 2012 debutalbum of frenetic, Malian Afro-rock.
By paring down Zabo’s tracks to their rhythmic, hypnotic essentials, Ernestus has created an inspired soundscape. These “dubwise” mixes somehow succeed in feeling both organic and reinvented.
Mark Ernestus’s influence on the last twenty years of electronic music is well established. With partner Moritz von Oswald, Ernestus spearheaded two legendary projects: the minimal techno pulse of Basic Channel and the avantroots-dub of Rhythm and Sound. Since the mid-2000’s Mark has increasingly focused on African music.
Ben Zabo released his first album in May of 2012. Backed by a full-throttle 7-piece band, Zabo’s music pleads for love and justice while barnstorming the dancefloor. The album ended-up on several African music year-end top-ten lists and was widely reviewed and widely hailed: “This fantastic debut by a new name from Mali…has all the intensity of Africa70 or Ok Jazz…a triumph.” - Mojo ****

Our wonderful Greenlandic musician Nive Nielsen was awarded the Stardust Price from the Danish crown prince couple on Saturday. This is an award for young, aspiring artists from Denmark. In the Alison Concert Hall in Sønderborg she received the with 50.000 Danish kroners endowed price from the Crown prince himself. In his speech he said about her: “ Nive Nielsen is a young ambitious star of Greenlandic Singer-/ Songwriters. With high naturalness she toured foreign countries over the past years, especially the United States and Canada.
Nive Nielsen combines her ethnical background and pride with contemporary sounds. As a modern Eskimo Lady she looks at the world as her stage. Whether touring North Greenland in close collaboration with local musicians and tradition or being on stages in the hot scene of Los Angeles doesn’t make any difference. Nive Nielsen gives an outstanding example for the new Greenlandic identity, she is full of strength and openness. We hope that the Stardust Award inspires Nive Nielsen to new musical accomplishments.”

NEW SOULSAVERS ALBUM FEATURING DAVE GAHAN (DEPECHE MODE)
'The Light The Dead Sea' is the follow-up to 2009’s critically acclaimed album Broken and is the fourth studio album fromSoulsavers - the music and production team of Rich Machin and Ian Glover, published by MUTE Song. Recorded at various locations and mastered at Abbey Road, the record was made as a collaboration with Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan.
Soulsavers have been a growing force since 2003's debut 'Tough Guys Don't Dance'. 2007's 'It's Not How Far You Fall, It's The Way You Land' brought their dark flair to a wider audience. The inimitable Mark Lanegan served as primary singer, though there were also vocal contributions from Will Oldham and Jimi Goodwin. In 2009, third album 'Broken' confirmed that Soulsavers were moving away from early electronica to earthier guitars, use of space and what Machin described as "a soulful twist". Lanegan again led the vocals on stand-outs such as 'You Will Miss Me When I Burn' and 'All The Way Down', with other guest vocalists including Oldham again, Jason Pierce, Richard Hawley, Mike Patton and Gibby Haynes.

Much of the Malian music that has been released on European and American labels in the last few years shares one thing: it is mostly down tempo and reflective. The music of Ben Zabo is a clear break from this quietude. His music is a string of firecrackers igniting on the dance floor of a midnight party. It is a music that has been perfected in the loud, sweaty, open-air clubs that line the outskirts of Bamako, places where the competition to get heard is fierce, and the chances of moving upward and outward are next to none.
With the release of Ben Zabo’s self-titled album an older tradition is renewed and an uncharted path begins. Mali’s Afro-beat past is fused with the pulse of Bamako in the new millennium and the rarely heard sounds from the Bo musical culture.
Ben Zabo's debut on Glitterhouse is the first album ever to be released by a Malian of Bo descent. Because of this, Ben routinely refers to him and his band as “musical warriors.” In this chaotic and often indifferent world, they are fighting to have their voices heard, their rhythms felt and their cultural legacy recognized. They are funky, charismatic and committed. They are not going to give up easily.
EMA has recently been featured on the CBS drama series The Good Wife. The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project is following 2009’s acclaimed We Are Only Riders collection with a second volume of the late Gun Club leader’s previously-unreleased works-in-progress, brought to life by old friends, collaborators and acolytes.
Many songs started as nascent ideas captured on a cassette unearthed by Pierce’s latter day collaborator Cypress Grove while clearing out his loft. Harking back to the collective ethos of Pierce’s beloved jazz, artists spill into each other’s tracks, reinterpreting or finishing lyrical and melodic sketches while some chose personal favorites from his catalogue.
This time, the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project includes Nick Cave (who also takes part in a return duet with Debbie Harry on ‘The Breaking Hands’), Mick Harvey, Debbie Harry & Chris Stein, Lydia Lunch, The Jim Jones Revue, Kid Congo Powers, Tav Falco’s Panther Burns, Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell, Youth’s Vertical Smile, Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate), Warren Ellis, Barry Adamson, Bertrand Cantat & Pascal Humbert, Thalia Zedek & Chris Brokaw, Hugo Race, Dom Beken and Kris & Michelle Needs, sometimes in different combinations.
The album was released on March 30th on German label Glitterhouse on both CD and double vinyl, with 20 page booklet featuring memorabilia and extensive liner notes by Kris Needs. Proceeds from the first volume went to Amnesty International, but Pierce’s sister Jacqui is setting up The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Foundation to help fulfil her brother’s long-standing desire to provide musical instruments for under-privileged kids in LA.

THE FLYING EYES BOARD TO LA CHUNGA
Baltimore's fresh Psych Rock outfit The Flying Eyes is the latest addition to the La Chunga roster.
Their name comes from a 1962 science fiction novel about giant, disembodied eyes that descend from outer space to control humanity. Since forming in 2007, they have played supporting gigs with Dead Meadow, The Raveonettes, The Black Angels, Witch and Dan Auerbach.
Their 2009 self titled debut came out in 2009 on Trip In Time Records and they recently released their follow-up "Done So Wrong".
Iron Sky is one of the most talked about fantastic movies of these days. Totally crowd-funded with a great cast and hilarious, comedic story, the movie has made it to the front pages. Premiering at "Berlinale" film festival in February 2012, Iron Sky might become a surprise film this year. The score has been composed by Mute Song's Laibach, who match perfectly and deliver a drak and fierce sountrack to the movie.
About Iron Sky:
"In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers.
When American astronaut James Washington (Christopher Kirby) puts down his Lunar Lander a bit too close to the secret Nazi base, the Moon Führer (Udo Kier) decides the glorious moment of retaking the Earth has arrived sooner than expected. Washington claims the mission is just a publicity stunt for the President of the United States (Stephanie Paul), but what else could the man be but a scout for the imminent attack by Earth forces? The Fourth Reich must act!
Two Nazi officers, ruthless Klaus Adler (Götz Otto) and idealistic Renate Richter (Julia Dietze), travel to Earth to prepare the invasion. In the end when the Moon Nazi UFO armada darkens the skies, ready to strike at the unprepared Earth, every man, woman and nation alike, must re-evaluate their priorities."
Dana Schechter is back with Bee And Flower and an amazing new album, coming up this spring. “Suspension” (Cheap Satanism Records) brings more rocking, more Alternative vibes than the previous releases. Nevertheless, as with their previeous works, all songs go deep under the skin. "Suspension" is their most focused and direct recording to date. The album defines the band's twisted-yet-catchy melodies, heartbreaking swoons and fierce dark landscapes to glittering effect. Bee And Flower will tour along with the release world wide.

From the Americana inspired debut album, the poppier sophomore and the more challenging Rouge/Noir, we have always looked for a change. Again, with our new Album, we have changed. We have discovered a new direction to our band musically.
Not only that. In name, Washington has ceased to exist. In its place comes Mount Washington, the wiser, more reflected and edgier version of its youthful predecessor. Mount Washington will represent everything we have done until now, but also something new. It is a second coming, a new dawn, a vision of hope and fututre achievements.*
The basis is the same one. Same band members, same wonderful label, same will to play music for everyone, everywhere. But just as with the city of Washington, the semantics of the band must change. Mount Washington, originally a mountain with one of the most extreme conditions know to man, is now a band.
Yes, we can. *also, because a certain singer from Australia took our name.

What fits better than the melancholic beauty of Get Well Soons Indie Rock. Jil Sander was right, chosing "I Sold My Hand For Food, So Please Feed Me" (indeed, a bizarre song title) for the "Eve" campaign, putting some aural emphasis to the odor of grape blossoms and wild roses.
This spot has become a summer classic this year. Cornetto Enigma is the ice cream that makes even the Audio Bullys become passionate. Their elctrorocking Indie sound of "Only Man" from their recent album "Higher Than The Eiffel" fits perfect to the summer-beach atmosphere and makes you desire more ice cream!
Angel is Ilpo Väisänen (Pan Sonic) and Dirk Dresselhaus (Schneider TM) who play time-transcending freeform sound, weightlessness and gravity of electromagnetic signals together since 1999.
The 5 tracks describe the last period of a 26000 years long cycle that leads to a new situation on this planet.

The repertoire of the instruments is very wide: glassbowls, metal objects, pieces of wood, grass, birds, dragonflies, lake echo, smoking box and the regular electronic equipment as well as acoustic instruments.
It's all good in the tummy, bwoys, because the Black Sabbath parts were totally AC/DC.

The Fuzztones' charismatic founder and frontman Rudi Protrudi wrote and co-wrote the majority of songs, such as legendary Ward 81, She's Wicked, Bad News Travels Fast, Highway 69, Nine Months Later, Romilar D, Action Speaks Louder Than Words. After a remarkable SXSW show, Erika Anderson aka EMA seems to be the talk of the music media world. From Sunday Times to Pitchfork, The Guardian to Stereogum, Berliner zeitung to Intro Magazine, everybody's sure that EMA is someone to watch. Her debut album "Past Life Martyred Saints" on Souterrain Transmissions is a celebration of fresh Reverb Pop mixed with raw guitar spirit a-la Hole. Her song "California" is often claimed best song about California after Dead Kennedys "California Über Alles". However, we are happy to have EMA on the Ceuso ship.

Germany's successful Children's music band Die Mukketier-Bande just released their first Audiobook "Hofgeschichten", translated as Stories From The Farm. It's the story of Bauer Anton as the popular farmer and main character of the band, who introduces farmlife with all the animals that are gifted musicians. "Hofgeschichten" has been released via Universal in German language territories.
Rhythms, beats and melody have driven Dodos (published by Mute Song) since 2005, and the band are once again at their magnetic best, singing, strumming, banging and beating their way through their fourth LP 'No Color'.
Reunited with Portland producer John Askew, the man behind the boards of the Dodos’ first two full-lengths, 'Beware of the Maniacs' and their breakthrough album 'Visiter', the band return to a more psych-folk sound for what could very well be the best album of their career so far.
The main focus of 'No Color' was to distill the frenzied folk approach that’s been there since the beginning. And it works, from the dagger-drawing dynamics and brain-burrowing choruses of “Black Night” to the hairpin turns and splashy percussion of “Good.” Other highlights include the instrumental break of “Don’t Stop” and the sneak attack solo that weaves its way around the steely rhythms of “Don’t Try and Hide It.”
Lyrically, 'No Color' is a step in a new direction for Dodos with a noticeably more impressionistic lyrical approach freeing up the songs with phrasing that is rhythmically and thematically more locked in than ever before to what is happening sonically - words acts in tandem with the dizzying momentum accumulated on this set of anthemic and optimistic set of songs.
LA CHUNGA signs mutual subpublishing deal with Velvetica Music Publishing who will represent the La Chunga Catalogue in France. LA CHUNGA will represent Velvetica with artists like Tahiti 80 or Anoraak in Germany, Austria and various Eastern European countries.

Mute Song & La Chunga welcome Josh T. Pearson. 'Last Of The Country Gentlemen', the much anticipated debut solo album from Josh T. Pearson, is a collection of personal, powerful and painful songs drawn from the lessons of what Pearson describes as "a rough year". A modern masterpiece, the album is built on a self-referential sadness that ultimately offers hope from the trials that Pearson has suffered and survived.
The son of a 'fire and brimstone' style southern preacher, Josh T. Pearson's strict religious upbringing has informed much of his musical output. Pearson was a founder member of the short-lived but critically acclaimed band Lift to Experience, who released only one record, the 2001 concept album 'The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads', before splitting up soon after. So beloved by John Peel were they that he had LTE record three sessions in five months and were included in the Best 125 Peel Sessions of all time.
'Last Of The Country Gentlemen' was recorded in Berlin in two nights, freshly written and committed to tape after Pearson saw how the songs affected audiences when he played them. Mute are Josh T. Pearson's record label and publishers.

If it comes on African Blues, there's no way around Lobi Traoré. Living in Mali's musical Metropolis Bamako, he grew up with the sound of John Lee Hooker and Angus Young, two important fixed stars for his guitar play. Since his 1989 debut "Bambara Blues", he became one of Mali's most popular singer&songwriters. Close to his death in June 2010, he had the chance to record a final album with Chris Eckman, to prove his skills for a final chapter. The album "Rainy Season Blues" is a document of Lobi's bright voice over a moody and outstanding guitar, that became Lobi's signature sound. And we are happy to publish it.

MUTE SONG CATCHES BOB GELDORF AND THE BOOMTOWN RATS
La Chunga and Mute Song are delighted to announce the signing of Bob Geldof in a deal that includes his impressive back catalog of songs, including his work with The Boomtown Rats.

His next two albums 1990's ‘The Vegetarians of Love' and 'Happy Club’ (1993) saw Geldof receive much deserved critical attention and spawned his most popular solo single, the much loved “The Great Song of Indifference”. LET'S BARK FOR UNDERWORLD!
'Barking' is the title of Underworld’s sixth studio album ( published by Mute Song), their first album in three years, and their first to be constructed with a brilliant cast of co-conspirators. All the tracks were written by the band in their Essex studio before being given to handpicked studio heads from across the whole spectrum of dance music to add some of their style and creativity to the band’s raw material.
The result is a pimped-up Underworld record and their finest collection of songs in over a decade.
The sound of 'Barking' is unmistakably Underworld, featuring electronics wrapped effortlessly around songs, streams of consciousness lyrics that form indelible images and a perfectly balanced mix of melody and rhythm.

Late 2008, French electro was all about banging beats and distortion when Anoraak flashed across the musical landscape with his extra-terrestrial romantic synth-pop. "Nightdrive With You" was soon to become the underground anthem that lead him to tour the world for about 2 years and remix artists such as Junkie XL, Shy Child, Neon Indian or Mika.
Recently signed to naïve, Anoraak has just finished recording his first full length effort, due August 30th 2010.
Released in May 2010 and carrying on sonically where brilliant debut album ‘Embrace’ (2009) left off, Mute Song's Californian six-piece Sleepy Sun’s second album ‘Fever’ is an exciting mix of fuzzy psych-blues, stoner, tribal shakedowns, interstella acid rock and dreamy melodies. The band effortlessly fuse dynamic 70s stoner pop sensibilities with a swirling expanse of fuzzy guitars, a throbbing rhythm section and hypnotic, echo drenched vocals to produce what is already looking like one of the best albums of 2010.
London based duo John & Jehn will bewitch your with their new album "Time For The Devil", a dark hearted Indie Pop gem, mixed by legendary Dave Bascombe of Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears, Echo & The Bunnymen fame.
A casual listen the album reveals the lineage between John & Jehn and PiL, XTC, Stranglers or modernists like Editors, zZz and Interpol. Pop Songs, hypodermically injected with dancefloor potency, laced with literary barbs and acerbic wit.
NME thinks "The two could come straight from a smoke-steeped film noir, like some Rock'n Roll Bonnie & Clyde."
Trash Money's funky and cineastic "Million Pound Note" has been prominently placed in the international "The A-Team 2010" movie trailer. The movie starts summer 2010, starring Liam Neeson, Quinton Jackson, Bradly Cooper and Sharlto Copley as the new "A-Team".

It is indeed a monumental album from GET WELL SOON. Konstantin Gropper shows again how inspireing songwriting, Wave-melancholy and amazing arrangements form a splendid Indie Rock album. Vexationsdoes not disappoint from the bginning to the end walks the same path as the debut "Rest Now Weary Head, You Will Get Well Soon". Constant touring lead the Band all over Europe and in between Konstantin found enough time to compose songs for a variety of movies, that are included to the limited edition CD of Vexations. The album gained charts success within the first week of release, topping #11 of the German album charts and still on the way up. It's gonna be a big year for Get Well Soon!
Wall Of Sound artist Reverend & The Makers are the latest cool signing to Touch Tones Music. Straight outta Sheffield, Jon McClure formed the band in 2005 and promptly gained succes with their UK Top 10 hitting single "Heavyweight Champion Of The World" from their first album "State Of The World". Touring with Oasis, Kasabian and The Arctic Monkeys (who's former bassist Andy Nicholsen joined The Makers in late 2009) catapulted the band quickly into Brit Rock-Fame orbit. "A French Kiss In The Chaos", their 2nd album became their most succesful and we can't wait for the third one in 2010.
JEFFREY LEE PIERCE'S FINAL WORKS PUBLISHED BY LA CHUNGA
Oh, how we love(d) The Gun Club. We danced to the wonderful Sex Beat a hundred times and still admire the beauty of albums like Miami or Las Vegas Story. Especially the melancholic, shivering voice of Jeffrey Lee Pierce took our attention and it was a big loss when Pierce passed away in 1996. The Gun Club always moved in between bands like The Bad Seeds, Crime & The City Solution or The Cramps, sometimes uncomfortable, as their swampy, bluesy sound was quite early for that what's called Americana today.
Back in the days, Cypress Grove demoed a couple of songs with Jeffrey Lee Pierce what possibly are the last works he participated. This Sessions Project "We Are Only Riders" collects these works, re-interpreted by fellas like Nick Cave, Lydia Lunch, Debbie Harry, The Raveonettes, The Sadies, David Eugene Edwards or Mark Lenegan. The songs form a vibrating Compilation of Swamp Blues, Gloomy Country and Dark Rock. Liner notes are contributed by Wim Wenders, Henry Rollins and others, the artwork optically enhanced with photos from the recording sessions to the songs of Jeffrey Lee Pierce, released on Vinyl and CD on Glitterhouse Records.
Tamikrest is the first band from Africa on La Chunga. The deep, bluesy Desert Rock from Mali's young Tuareg band Tamikrest is exotic, modern and earth.bound.
Tamikrest in Tamasheq language means junction, connection, knot, coalition. The group members come from different horizons (Mali, Niger, Algeria). Wanting to assume fully their Tuareg identity, they found in the rebel music Ishumar the means to express it. “A desert hosts us, a language unites us, a culture binds us.”
Their story begins at Kidal, capital of the 8th Region of Mali, while making tea of course. Pino, Cheikh and Mossa had just finished a guitar workshop with Juhan Ecaré (guitarist for Meiway) when they decided to form a group with only two old “home made” guitars. And they got to work… “Even though we are young, guitars still have six cords!”
After one year and a half of hard work, the group is complete and their repertory has grown to contain more than twenty-five original compositions. Though their music takes root in Ishumar Rock or Tuareg Blues, it borrows from various international influences as well as from neighbouring cultures.
Through the message of their songs, Tamikrest want to make Tamasheq poetry and culture accessible to inhabitants of a world larger than the immensity of the Saharian desert. Their debut "Adagh" takes Europe by storm and to quote the Myspace Site, "sounds like nothing you ever heard in your life".
Savoy Grand, the icons of deceleration, are not dead. They are not in prison. They have not gone. They are here!
Savoy Grand believe in saying something when there is something worth saying. Accident Book is the fourth album from Savoy Grand. Produced by singer & songwriter Graham Langley, it is the follow up to 2005’s “People and What They Want”.
The 9 songs were recorded in various locations in Nottingham, including a self-built studio in a corner of a rundown former dairy. Shortly after the project began the building was condemned and closed down. But Savoy Grand had to continue, as they always do. There is a sense of purpose that keeps these songs coming; slowly moving forward, like glaciers.
But these are not frosty epic songs of sweeping landscapes, these are songs of sweet and tender sadness. Of those moments in life that, however small, can be profoundly moving, and strangely life affirming.
That life affirming quality has been embodied with the addition of new (since 2005…) drummer, Darren Simpson. He brings an insistence and dynamism to the sound. Along with the chiming guitar of Neil Johnson, and the mournful Piano & Clarinet of Kieran O’Riordan, a leaner, meaner & bolder sound has emerged.
So, small incidents that go unnoticed but could change someone’s life forever, or catastrophes that affect us all. They all have to go in the book. The Accident Book.
Set for release on 29 March 2010, Speculation is the new, perfectly titled, To Rococo Rot album, recorded in part at Faust’s studio at Scheer.
To Rococo Rot, the trio of Stefan Schneider and brothers Robert and Ronald Lippok, arrived just over a decade ago at the point where digital precision and instrumental abstraction were lead into new directions in contemporary music. Their early albums, Veiculo and The Amateur View, spoke in the future imperfect tense, highly complex but concentrated sound happenings.
On Speculation the language has changed. This is a record that celebrates uncertainty. Driven by the sound of fingers on instruments, pushing and weaving between the electric pulse, Speculation bathes in a midpoint between propulsion and letting go. According to Schneider, Faust’s studio had an obvious effect on this new direct approach:
“The atmosphere at the Faust studio was really special as it is located in a remote rural region of southern Germany. The technical set up at the studio is very basic and regular in a good way. So we could record our music almost like a band playing a live show in order to achieve maximum brilliance and plasticity.”
“Jochen Irmler of Faust would join us from time to time or he would just start to play something on his self built organ which we would accompany. The sound of his organ is absolutely unique and sharp and therefore fitted very much to the roughness of our recordings. Maybe that is what we call the amateur view.”
Our favorite London nerd Niyi is back in 2010 with a long awaited new single! And according to the death of Indie Rock and re-birth of Dance music, his new EP "Jungle Fever" features a variety of bouncing, jacking 4-beat monsters, straight for the floor plus some synth rocking remixes. Released on "Holloway Hit Factory" and available through all download stores worldwide.

Of course you did. And now, he comes with a new album in March on Glitterhouse!
For his 6th album Michael J. Sheehy has written a song cycle which tells the story of Francis Delaney, a fictional prize fighter whose life unravels after he takes a dive in the most important fight of his career. The story is told through the eyes of Delaney himself and other characters such as the fight promoters, the punters and his opponent.
Sheehy is a life-long boxing fan, ‘I boxed as a schoolboy when I was eleven or twelve years old, you need courage, strength, ruthlessness and skill to be a good fighter…..’ explains Sheehy ‘and sadly I was found lacking in every department.’ Despite his brief boxing career, Sheehy’s love of the sport never waned though he was wary of embarking on this project ‘The story of the down at heel, troubled prize fighter has been told many times so I needed to avoid the obvious clichés and find an original way to tell the tale. I’ve always had a love of the perpetual waster, those sports persons who know how good they are but believe the game itself is more important than the prizes and accolades.’ Sheehy continues ‘ I also admire those sports men and women who have that drive to succeed but nine times out of ten those people don’t make interesting stories.’
With These Hands is a rich mix of gothic, vaudeville, blues and folk. The songs are often vicious and Sheehy doesn’t shy away from tackling some of the more unsavoury aspects of the fight game such as racism and homophobia. 'These songs were written for a musical which is set in the early 1960s and the fight promoters are the real villains’ says Sheehy.
Crooked-Eyed Engineer is sung from the perspective of a promoter who fancies himself as an East end gangster but is actually a deeply insecure repressed homosexual who regards fighters as nothing more than fodder.
Ain’t a White Boy Alive (featuring the amazing Sandy Dillon) is sung by another confused character, an American fight promoter of Irish and Jewish heritage who wishes he was black. As ever Sheehy's gallows humour is prevalent throughout. There are tender moments too such as the beautiful Frankie My Darling (sung by Gemma Ray) and a gut wrenching acappella reading of Goodnight Irene. With These Hands should cement Sheehy's growing reputation as a gifted storyteller and a musician with a unique voice.

DIRK DRESSELHAUS AKA SCHNEIDER TM KICKS OFF IN 2009
Dirk Dresselhaus (aka Schneider) has just finished the soundtrack for the feature film “66/67″ (www.farbfilm-verleih.de/filme/66_67.html ) by directors Ludwig & Glaser (www.myspace.com/ludwigundglaser ) , which will be shown in European cinemas in 2009.
Besides the score, which consists mainly of guitar / drone and noise based improvisations, the soundtrack includes some Schneider TM & FM songs, hilarious oddities such as the 80’s L.A.-hair metal song ‘Hangin’ Around’, the Nina Simone like ‘Construction Site Blues’, some Dub, a re-recorded version of the Hip Young Things song ‘Torrid Souls’ (www.myspace.com/hipyoungthings), some Indie / Wave / Kraut Rock material (which was partly written for the fictive band Magnetband) and tons of other stuff…
Schneider TM is working on music for the performace piece 2109 by Ingo Reulecke and Lukas Matthaei, which will be played on 6th, 7th, 8th and 13th, 14th, 15th of March at diverse locations in Berlin.

STEREO DE LUXE SQUEEZE IT WITH FRESHLY SQUEEZED!
Berlin production duo STEREO DE LUXE are better known for their superbly crafted production and wierdly twisted pop than for the speed of their output. And quite right too. After a long gap UK label Freshly Squeezed is finally releasing the last 2 EPs in our 4 part download series. The "Rubberboat EP" (out 16.02.09) and the "Cyclette EP" (23.02.09) deliver, in uncharacteristically quick succession, a further 3 new tunes a piece.
These form the last bits of the jigsaw before our 'best of' CD album collects together the incredible depth and range of material intermittently released on various labels since their debut. "Monosyllabic" (02.03.09) is a surprisingly consistent and rich album that will open many ears with it's incredible quality.

UNRELEASED HAUSCHKA WORKS ON FAT CAT RECORDS!
On the heels of October’s ‘Ferndorf’ album, Düsseldorf-based pianist / composer Volker Bertelmann (aka Hauschka) kicks of the new year with a beautiful extended EP of previously unreleased material, all of which was recorded during the ‘Ferndorf’ sessions. Featuring seven new tracks (five on the vinyl edition), the EP is a great follow-up to an album which has continued to draw widespread critical acclaim.
Where previous albums comprised mostly solo recordings of Hauschka’s ‘prepared’ piano (with a few electronic and instrumental overdubs), ‘Ferndorf’ was a far more expansive and fully-realised album, with many of the tracks also featuring a string duo, enabling an increased solidity and an expanded, rousing dynamism. Still retaining the shivers and tics (as by-products of) of the modified internal workings of the piano - alongside some sweet electronic touches – these are less central and instead what’s foregrounded is the melodic / rhythmic push and pull, and a development towards more orchestrated music and notated compositions.

What happens if men lose hair? They sing the Blues! Michael J. Sheehy is the latest signing to La Chunga publishing and he sings some hell of Rhythm & Blues, spiced with hot Gospel and Folk. You might think of Louisiana, Voodoo and Cajun clichés while listening to his great albums like"With These Hands" and "Ghost On The Motorway", but this chap is from London! Michael J Sheehy's truly got SOUL!
Yes, we love "Californication" and we even more love the fact, that "Lost (She Believed In Angels)" from Sophia has just been licensed for an episode of this international successful TV series. Recommended!
