Sophia

Sophia is the band of Robin Proper-Sheppard, who is an extremely gifted and unique songwriter, a master at crafting mournful, intimate songs.

Especially his recent two albums, People Are Like Seasons and Technology Won´t Save Us are quite strong, expressive releases, slightly melancholic but all passionate. Robin Proper-Sheppard skills are his dark songwritiung combined with a an excellent orchestration. Sophia appears as versatile from fantastic melodies to rocking, even noisy sound.

Steadily evolving since the stripped down introspective melancholy of the 1996 debut ‘Fixed Water’, ‘The Infinite Circle’ (1998), 2001’s string-accompanied live album ‘De Nachten’ ,‘People Are Like Seasons’ (2004) and `Technology Won`t Save Us`(2006), SOPHIA is currently a truly unique proposition, trading in what Drowned In Sound calls ‘considered widescreen brilliance’ and The Daily Telegraph describes as ‘Easily a match for the big, universal songs of Flaming Lips or the Verve… deserves to be massive. Realist romanticism, to be loved long-term…’. Robin describes ‘Technology Won’t Save Us’ as ‘probably the most adventurous album I’ve made so far’ and from the heavily orchestrated opening instrumental track, which shares its name with the album, it’s easy to see why.
