Music A.M.

There was a time when indie rock and electronica were polar opposites, fierce reactions to one another, representing 'real' music and 'the future' respectively. Slowly the two have circled each other to the point where now the cross pollination has given birth to whole new breeds.

MUSIC A.M. is a case in point. The result of a seemingly unlikely collaboration that bridges the gap between Scotland and Germany, the band features Luke Sutherland (former singer/guitarist for Scottish band Long Fin Killie, now based in London; also violinist for Mogwai and successful novelist), Stefan Schneider (Mapstation, To Rococo Rot) and Volker Bertelmann (also of Tonetraeger).

MUSIC A.M. specialise in a fragile but precious hybrid of electronica and classic songrwriting. Washes of subtly plucked guitars and gentle basslines decorate delicate soundscapes, with Luke Sutherland's distinctive voice topping off around half their work. Perfectly named for slow, gentle starts to the day or comedowns in the small hours of the morning, MUSIC A.M. specialise in whispering whirlpools of guitar, burbling micro-funk and deep blue basslines, understated but confident. Blissful and unexpectedly beautiful: like a snowy morning bathed in golden sunshine…
